Students will learn the advantages and challenges of producing watercolor paintings using Yupo plastic ground vs. traditional rag paper.
1st Day: Painting a poppy floral painting as an introduction following the instructor's demo. In the afternoon, students will go over steps for producing a landscape, consulting with the instructor and referencing photos for the second day's painting.
2nd Day: Using techniques learned on day 1, paint a landscape on Yupo.

I remember I began drawing around the age of three. I continued drawing and painting all the way through school. In junior high, I started a watercolor sketchbook, and in high school, my parents saw my talent and enrolled me in a commercial art correspondence course. After graduating from high school, I joined the Navy as an illustrator Draftsman. I had all the art materials and time to work on my own projects after work. After the Navy, I went to an art school in Seattle for a year, and then enrolled in the Art Center College of Design as an Illustration major. After graduating in 1973, I joined an illustration/design studio in Newport Beach. I continued on my own as a freelance illustrator for a few years, but recognizing the world of print media was changing, I began transitioning into fine art. Just after the turn of the millennium, I started taking a watercolor class, finding out about watercolor on Yupo. About that time, I joined the Southern California Plein Air Painters Association. I also joined the Orange and San Celemente Art Associations. Around 2007, I joined Laguna North Gallery and Mission Fine Art Gallery. After a few years, I have begun concentrating more on oils, doing mostly plein air and some studio work during the Pandemic.
