Continuing her series of gel plate printing workshops, Karen Doyle will teach students how to transfer laser printed images and magazine pages to the gel plate. This is an experimental process, a combination of art and science, and Karen will talk about both. In this longer format workshop, she will explain paint application, use of acrylic medium, drying time, pulling the image transfer print and painting the plate to create a painterly monotype. She will discuss what inspires her and share explanations of both successes and failures, and how these led to additional exploration. If you’ve been wanting to dedicate time to practicing this technique on the gel plate, are a painterly printer, or a printmaker wanting to learn this image transfer process, come join us. Karen will bring laser prints and magazine images to practice with. By lunchtime, we will all set up a painted monotype and leave it to dry, to pull the reveal at the end of class. You will want to bring your own images to use as well – please see the materials list for full details. Come have fun, print, and make friends!
