Participants bring a photo they’d like to paint, printed to scale (8x10” is good) in full color and also image flipped horizontally in black and white to trace. Anne will walk you through the process of transferring the image to Arches cold pressed paper in the first 45 minutes. Then she'll teach a basic 3-pass approach to painting the subject, working mainly from light to dark, and from large shapes to create the form to fine details in the last stage. Each artist gets individual support & feedback throughout, as they desire. Anne will demonstrate how to tackle the stages along the way, not a full demo but portions in each stage. She'll also discuss anatomy and the importance of seeing.
At the end the class can discuss mounting or matting & framing, as time allows. Most students leave with a completed portrait (although artists are welcome to work at their own speed and some will want to do more at home).
Please see attached materials list for what to bring.
