Based on Dawn's book, "Pastel Innovations", this class is a fast and fun paced launch into using
PanPastels* and soft stick pastels with mixed media. Many approaches Dawn has developed since
the 2017 publication of the book will be demonstrated that will open up even more possibilities
with respect to surfaces and layering media for both additive and subtractive painting. The
workshop is guaranteed to have your head spinning with new ideas and new passion for the pastel
medium! ALL levels welcome.
*If you do not have Pan Pastels, there will be some on hand to borrow.

About Dawn Emerson
Dawn is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, author of Pastel Innovation
(Northight Publishers 2017), producer of seven instructional videos for pastel and mixed media,
and is a highly respected workshop instructor and art judge. Her work is know for its vibrant
movement and unique use of color and mixed media with pastel in her depiction of animals,
landscapes, people, and abstraction. Dawn strives to bring new ideas to every workshop and to
inspire participants through her energy and belief that “less is more.“
