Continuing her series of gel plate printing workshops, Karen Doyle will teach students how to create beautiful, luminous prints by intentionally layering transparent and opaque paints. To demonstrate this technique, Karen will show how she creates layered monotypes with fall leaves. She will explain an easy “registration” method to capture details when using botanicals. Karen will discuss what inspires her, share examples, and demo different ways to print by alternating dark and light colors and paying attention to paint transparency and opacity. Karen will bring maple leaves she has collected; you are also encouraged to bring your own botanicals – ferns and eucalyptus and any fallen fall leaf will work great. If you’ve been wanting to learn or experiment further with botanical printing on the gel plate, or explore how to layer transparent and opaque paints, this will be for you! Come have fun, print, and make friends.
