Silent Thoughts is an intuitive exploration of mixed media techniques, combining acrylic paint, charcoal pencil, fabric and stitching to create a raw and imperfect textural self portrait. Drawing or stitching experience isn't necessary as Beatriz will gently guide you through the stages of building a portrait one layer at a time, instinctively, without expectations of planning and perfection. You'll enjoy the instinctual stitching method she'll share with you for embellishing your work - a calm and meditative process of letting go and allowing the needle to travel as it guides you on your journey of exploration.
Supply List:
Plain white cotton fabric Various fabric scraps small to medium size Acrylic paints Sewing and embroidery threads of various colors and black, white and/or cream
(Beatriz will provide all of the above, however, students can bring their own color threads and acrylic paints if they'd like)
Supplies Students Need to Bring:

Artist Bio
Beatriz Helton is a mixed media, fiber and textile bookmaking artist. Making books from vintage book pages, music sheets, old photographs, fabrics and other interesting discoveries is her passion. While stitching, drawing or painting on fabric and paper, making books or finding something to add to her work, she thrives on the process as she enters the creative zone leaving her inner critic in the back seat. Her bookmaking is always evolving, no two books are exactly alike. Each page is a different expression of shapes, colors, textures, and impressions from her life. She is always intrigued to find unexpected images presenting themselves in the finished piece and she enjoys when the viewer finds something personal in her work. Beatriz believes an individual’s view of art is as unique as their fingerprint. She loves to encourage her students to create with a sense of play, as she believes having fun while creating is the key to making authentic art. For Beatriz, helping her students overcome the inner critic is essential for them to find their true voice.
