Pastels offer the opportunity for an intimate and direct experience of painting. As you hold the pastel
in your hands, your finger pressure and style of stroke create an artistic energy that can build and build.
In this workshop, Paula invites you to set up your own ordinary objects, such as vases, flowers, fruits,
shells or any personal treasure. With pastels we will portray the beauty of textures and atmospheric
light. We will appreciate seeing color temperature, exploring lost and found edges, laying in strong
design. With a deeper grasp of foundational principles, still life painting can lead to more colorful,
vibrant paintings of all kinds.
This one day workshop will help you produce one or two finished paintings using objects of your
choosing and will build on wherever you are in the wonderful world of pastel painting, whether a
beginner or an accomplished painter. Paula will give demonstrations and work with each participant
throughout each day.

About Paula Vukmanic
The Rev. Paula Vukmanic was Rector of St Francis Episcopal Church in Palos Verdes Estates and now enjoys mentoring and giving workshops at Destination: Art in Torrance. Prior to her years in ordained ministry, Paula was a professional artist exhibiting in galleries in California and Arizona, participating in plein aire events and competitions, giving retreats and workshops on the mandala and teaching plein aire classes on the Palos Verdes Peninsula hills and still life painting in her studio (at the PVAC too!). Paula is excited to be retired and is grateful to once again share her world of art and her spiritual perspectives on life with love!
