If you are a creative person looking to dip your toes into (or back into) art classes but aren’t sure you’re comfortable calling yourself an “Artist,” Art for Everyone is for You! We at Destination: Art want to help you bring more art-making into your life. Come explore some beginner safe art techniques in a low pressure environment.
Come and explore the joy of Gel plate printing. Using simple materials of acrylic paint, a brayer and a gel plate, students will learn the basics of creating their own unique printed papers. This is a process approach to art making that allows for the development of playfulness and experimentation. Each participant will leave the workshop with an abundance of their own personally printed papers that can be used in journals, collage or mixed media. There are no mistakes in gel plate printing, and the discovery process is part of the fun, making this a perfect project for discovering or rediscovering your artistic self. All materials will be provided.
The Art for Everyone program is intended for those who are dipping their toes into art making for the first time or are stepping back into it after an extended hiatus. We appreciate our more experienced artists holding space for them to enroll. Thank you.

Professional Bio: Karen Doyle is an award-winning Impressionist oil painter who paints luminous, colorful landscapes of her local surroundings and the places she visits. A California native, she holds a Bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Visual Art from UCSD and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Fine Art from PNCA, the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon. A lifelong artist, Karen pursued painting as a part-time professional while in Oregon, participating in paint outs, artist groups, art walks and gallery shows. She attended the Plein Air Convention from 2016-2019. In 2024, after moving to Palos Verdes, Karen retired from her 30-year corporate career with Nike and shifted her focus to working as an artist full-time. She is an artist member of LPAPA (Laguna Plein Air Painters Association), SOCALPAPA, the Paletteers painting group, and The Artists' Studio of Palos Verdes at PVAC, the Palos Verdes Art Center, where she shows her work regularly. She serves on the board of The Artist's Studio of Palos Verdes and also donates her time teaching art to people impacted by cancer at the Cancer Support Community South Bay in Torrance. In 2025, she was invited to join EASB, the Experimental Artists of the South Bay, a group of painters who meet monthly at Destination Arts in Torrance to explore diverse mark making techniques. In addition to oil painting both en plein air and in the studio, Karen enjoys creating acrylic photo collages, abstract paintings, and making prints using gel plates and linocuts, as well as the occasional pastel painting.
