Learn how to effectively use a wet underpainting to your advantage, how to show the movement and energy of the ocean, how to give volume to your waves, how to create airy foam and spray, how to choose a color palette, and how to show the effect of glowing tight on wet rocks.

Virginia Kamhi (PSWC, AWA Associate with Distinction) has her M.A in Fine Art- Painting from Academy of Art University. She has studied with many eminent pastel artists, including Richard McKinley, Albert Handell, Lorenzo Chavez, and Jeanne Rosier Smith. Kamhi’s works have been juried into six recent museum exhibitions She has been juried into 17 international pastel exhibitions and has been published in Southwest Art (2022) and local magazines. She recently was juried into the IAPS exhibition in Albuquerque. There were over 2000 entries and her painting won an award of merit in the open division. She has received over 30 awards for her work since 2016, including Second Place (California Art League, 2024), Third Place (Thousand Oaks Art Association Open Juried Show, 2020), Best of Show (4 th Skies Competition, Fusion Art, 2020), Third Place (Westlake Village Art Guild Open Juried Show, 2020), First Place (Westlake Village Art Guild Members Show, 2018). She serves on the board for Pastel Society of Southern California and Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore and is a member of Pastel Society of America, California Art Club, American Women Artists, PSWC, PSGC, WVAG, SCAPE, and Santa Barbara Art Association. Her work may be seen at Gallery 113 in Santa Barbara and West Hills Gallery in Ojai, CA.
