Let us enjoy the special colors, sizes and shapes of pastries! Our workshop will begin with exercises to explore composition and design, and the best arrangements of pastries in relationship to one another and the picture plane. We will creatively consider the unusual colors, textures and shapes of pastries. In the beginning of the workshop, we will discuss the work of Wayne Thiebaud who became known in the 1960’s for his paintings of pies, cakes, pastry and deli counters, gumball and pinball machines, street scenes and more. After Paula’s demonstration in pastels, each participant is invited to develop one complete work in the media of their choice. Paula will assist individually as you work toward a finished portrait of pastries.
Please bring pastries and a complementary plate or napkin for your still life.

About Paula Vukmanic
The Rev. Paula Vukmanic was Rector of St Francis Episcopal Church in Palos Verdes Estates and now enjoys mentoring and giving workshops at Destination: Art in Torrance. Prior to her years in ordained ministry, Paula was a professional artist exhibiting in galleries in California and Arizona, participating in plein aire events and competitions, giving retreats and workshops on the mandala and teaching plein aire classes on the Palos Verdes Peninsula hills and still life painting in her studio (at the PVAC too!). Paula is excited to be retired and is grateful to once again share her world of art and her spiritual perspectives on life with love!
