Calling all artists of every kind, at every level – writers, painters, actors, poets, sculptors, musicians, gardeners, cooks, craftspeople, or other --to join Jude in a weekly class to unlock and deepen our creativity, not only in our art, but also in our lives. We will follow The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron, a book that has been deepening the souls of artists all over the world for thirty years. Many have returned to this book and followed the path multiple times.
Please buy the book and read the Introduction, Basic Principles, Basic Tools, and Chapter 1 before our first class.
We will meet once a week for twelve weeks, one week for each chapter in the book. Individually we will read, write morning pages, go on artist dates, consider and engage with the tasks the book suggests, and then we will come together each week to share our discoveries, encourage one another, participate in creative exercises, laugh, talk and liberate ourselves as artists by being around other artists and their work.
Jude says “we” because she will be doing all this with you. She will set up the room and facilitate conversation, but this is a workshop of peers, each working in their own way on their own work but committed to experiencing deeper levels of creativity and sharing that process.
Creativity is a gift given to all of us to be nourished and developed. Everyone is invited to this workshop, whether you consider yourself an “artist” or not. (You are!) The expert always has something to learn from the novice and vice versa. This workshop is for YOU, where you are in your journey.
Please buy the book and read the Introduction, Basic Principles, Basic Tools, and Chapter 1 before our first class.
You are welcome to bring your dinner or snacks to class. Destination: Art offers coffee and water.

About Judith (Jude) Lyons
Jude (Judith F. Lyons) retired in 2012 from 45 years in the Theater as a director, actor and teacher in both professional and educational Theater. She has directed over 150 productions, three of which toured to Scotland for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Jude has begun to reconnect with the Theater as she serves in San Pedro as an Episcopal Priest. When asked about her artistic and spiritual journey, she explains, “The Theater has always been a sacred space for me where something real happens in rehearsals and we share that with an audience. Performance is a shared, co-created thing. My passion is to integrate my theater training and my life journey to create safe spaces and meaningful experiences that will free and deepen our truest selves, our creative selves, which is who we are, all of us.”

Jude is the mother of adult twin daughters, grandmother of two grandsons, and proud mama to her son-in-law.

Jude holds a B.A. in Speech and Dramatic Art from UCSB, an M.A., an Ed.S. in Theater and an M.F.A. in Directing from the University of Iowa. More recently she earned an M.Div from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley.
